Help Us Support Our Soldiers
Help Us Support
Our Soldiers
Hundreds of thousands of U.S. soldiers are serving their country in far away countries such as Iraq and Afghanistan. While it is important for our nation to supply these brave men and women with weapons and equipment to accomplish their stated missions, it is just as important for God's people in the WELS to provide them with spiritual support.
Through the Military Services Committee of its Commission on Special Ministries (CSM), the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod provides world-wide spiritual supports for soldiers (and civilians) who live away from their spiritual homes. A WELS chaplain stationed in Europe and a network of 126 military contact pastors stand ready to serve all who request their support. The CSM office also maintains a ministry-by-mail program that regularly provides issues of the "Meditations" devotional, printed monthly worship services, cassette and videotaped worship services and e-mail contact. All materials are provided free-of-charge.
Won't you help us provide this important spiritual support to our soldiers and their families?

WELS CHAPLAINS SERVE IN EUROPE AND IN THE UNITED STATES ...
We refer both civilians and military personnel living in Europe to our full-time civilian chaplain. Currently Pastor George Enderle is serving as vacancy chaplain. Pastor Joshua Martin will arrive to assume the role of full-time WELS Civilian Chaplain in late October. Working closely with lay volunteers, our chaplain serves people in a number of German cities, but it also travels to Italy, England, and Switzerland.
Our WELS chaplain and his members also reach out to unchurched, English-speaking people, focusing their efforts on the Frankfurt, Germany area. This effort is championed by the members of of Savior of the Nations Lutheran Church, a new English-speaking congregation at Wicker. Our European ministry calls itself the Confessional Lutheran Christian Church.
In the United States about 125 WELS Military Contact Pastors extend the gospel of their local congregation to people at military installations nearby. Although many are unable to provide regular worship services and Bible classes at the military installation, all go out of their way to invite individuals and families in the military to particpate in their congregation's ministry. Our Military Contact Pastors frequently make personal pastoral visits, offering Holy Communion, devotions, counseling and other spiritual services.
In addition to referring people to the personal services of a WELS chaplain or Military Contact Pastor, the Military Services Committee maintains a ministry-by-mail program. Through this program those on our mailing list regularly receive Meditations, printed monthly worship services, cassette and videotaped worship services. When possible our chaplain also maintain e-mail contact.
