On a White Horse

In the early days of television it was easy to tell the good guys from the bad guys--the good guys always wore white hats!

And there was something else. The bad guys always lost. Always!  That was the law. Evil dared never be shown to come out ahead.  "Crime doesn't pay!" was the lesson America wanted ingrained into its upcoming generation.

Real life isn't quite as clear-cut.  In real life the good guys don't always win the girl and ride off into the sunset singing a happy song.

Some times the bad guys win.  Some times we fear they will win it all.  To the claim: "Right makes might!" there is the counterclaim: "Might makes right!"

If the bad guys have the superior force on a given day, does that make them right?  If foul-ups and bad breaks and poor timing can bring down good plans and good intentions, what can make things right in the end?

Is it luck?  Is it fate?  Is there any assurance that Truth will triumph and Evil will be destroyed?

Absolutely!

There is One above and beyond who not only sees and knows, but who has ultimate control.  He knows that behind all evil is the Evil One.  Sin and death follow in this one's wake.

These are powerful forces.  But they also are beaten.

On a hill far away the Son of God sacrificed his life to break the death-grip of Evil.  With that one act he also wiped out our record of sin and penalty of death.  All that's left now is a mop-up action.

This side of heaven the Enemy remains dangerous.  But the only victory he can gain is one that we give him.  A rugged cross and empty grave outside of ancient Jerusalem are the conquest markers.

In heaven is seen the conquering Hero riding in the victory parade on his white horse.

From thousands upon thousands of jubilant voices comes the song:

"The strife is o'er  the battle done;
Now is the victor's triumph won;
Now be the song of praise begun.
Alleluia!"

I saw heaven standing open and there before me was a white horse, whose rider is called Faithful and True. With justice he judges and makes war. His eyes are like blazing fire, and on his head are many crowns. He has a name written on him that no one knows but he himself. He is dressed in a robe dipped in blood, and his name is the Word of God. The armies of heaven were following him, riding on white horses and dressed in fine linen, white and clean. Out of his mouth comes a sharp sword with which to strike down the nations. "He will rule them with an iron scepter." He treads the winepress of the fury of the wrath of God Almighty. On his robe and on his thigh he has this name written: KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS. —Revelation 19:11-16
